The Missing campaign

This advocacy campaign aimed to engage WHO to act furthermore in order to increase global access to HCV diagnostics and treatment. This campaign was inspired by a previous campaign “Wanted, WHO gang crime against liver” designed at that moment by ITPC, APN+ and Anpud. For this new campaign, the upstream work, mainly texts and slogans, were jointly designed by MdM, OSF, TAG, INPUD, APN+ and Act Up-Basel. The layout, translation and printing process were ensured by MdM.

The campaign started with the International Harm Reduction conference, Vilnius, Lithuania (June 9-12). 2,000 postcards and 15 posters both in Russian and English were displayed in the conference center to the participants. A petition collecting individual signatures was hosted on the hepCoalition website. In the beginning of July, and in order to gather more signatories, the multilingual petition was also put on Avaaz.

Outcomes

On July 28th, world hepatitis day, a letter, Dear Dr Chan, WHO Director General – Please Act Now !  with the petition and the list of signatories attached was sent directly to Dr Chan, WHO Director by APN+, MdM, TAG, ITPC, ActUp Basel and INPUD. This petition was signed by more than 4,000 persons among them a Nobel Prize of Medicine. and estimates regarding visibility on social networks are as follow: 17,264 persons saw the publications of this campaign on MdM Facebook page and the 5 tweets from MdM account reached 136,757 persons. the visual of the campaign was used by other activists worldwide and the campaign was re-used few month letter with a “still missing”.

Personal involvement

Co-writting of the petition text, design and layout of the visuals both for print (post card and poster) and digital use (FB, Twitter, web site formats), dissemination among international activists networks.
