Defuse hepatitis C, the viral time bomb: test and treat hepatitis C
Position Paper for the 67th World Health Assembly
Four years after the first WHO resolution on hepatitis, a new resolution on hepatitis was on the agenda of the 67th WHA. A position paper endorsed by several organizations was distributed. The note mainly advocates to prioritize People who inject drugs (PWID) and treatment reduction cost. Available in French, English and Russian, this document has been used by various civil society actors to lobby Member States before the adoption of a new resolution on hepatitis.
Outcomes
This resolution represents a success in at least two respects: it recognizes People who inject drugs as a population particularly affected by hepatitis and reaffirms the right to use TRIPS flexibilities to promote competition with generic drugs.
Personal involvement
Co-writing, design, layout and distribution of the position paper to partners and political decision-makers.
